Our Story

Our Hope

We believe that the local church is God's vehicle for social change.
Seed is re-engineering the church for action. Like Jesus, we desire to proclaim the kingdom and to heal. Helping set the poor free spiritually is just the beginning of the glorious Gospel message. We reflect the rest of the message - that Jesus came to restore not only our relationship with God, but to restore every aspect of our lives as we serve others though acts of mercy and compassion.
When we look around our city, we see a lot of assets. But when we slow down long enough to take a really good look, we discover a world of unmet needs and a people who hunger for change. On one hand, seed is about loving our neighbors holistically – meeting them where they are spiritually and physically. On the other, seed is about exposing the church to ministry that is calling you to invest your time, talents and resources into ministries that are slowly changing the city.

We desire to see the whole gospel applied to the whole person through whole churches.

Whole Gospel

The Gospel is the great announcement that life is available with God. This new life is freely available to anyone and everyone who puts their trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Whole Church

The gospel takes hold of us, transforms us, and we live out new lives in light of this glorious news.  The church is God's people.  We are worshippers, family, servants, disciples and witnesses.

Whole World

We are called to be Christ's ambassadors who are sent with authority, expecting to be changed and sustained by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Our Goals

Relationships over time, not just one time projects.
We want to see people restored to being what God created them to be: People who understand that they are created in the image of God with the gifts, abilities, and capacity to make decisions and to effect change in the world around them; and people who steward their lives, communities, resources, and relationships in order to increase the fame to God.  This happens when God's people are present in the places where the live and work, live life together, serve one another, and seek to grow and mature as followers of Jesus.

01

Presence

Embracing the spirit of servanthood.  Being present in the lives of our neighbors is key for service.  Our city-wide presence is due to the many reciprocal relationships we have formed, kept and deepened over the years.

02

Community

Being who you are, where you are, together. Community Groups gather in virtually every neighborhood throughout the city. By serving our neighbors, city officials, businesses and non-profits, groups provide a picture of the body of Christ - the Church in action.

03

Charity

Being openhanded to those in need. As we seek relationships with the poor and needy, physical needs are to be met.  We desire to step into each situation showing how a relationship with Christ redefines our suffering into an opportunity to trust, grow together and respond with faith to the difficulties of life.

04

Development

Building and revitalizing the city from the inside out. Job training, education, housing repair, financial peace, urban gardens, medical clinics.  All of these ministries provide more than temporary relief and give skills that bring hope, new life and have effects that last generations.

OUR FAITH

One Gospel - 3 Aspects

 Kingdom
We are created and designed to live our lives under the reign and rule of God (Matthew 24:14; Mark 1:15; Romans 14:17)
 Cross
The cross is the good news that through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we have been made right with God (Isaiah 53:4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Galations 6:14)
 Grace
The announcement that God accepts us and shares His life with us, not because we have earned it or deserved it, but he gives it to us freely at Christ's expense (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 9:16; Acts 20:24)

One Church - 5 Identities

  Worshippers
We no longer worship created things, but now worship the Creator God (Romans 12:1)
  Family
We are no longer lonesome orphans, but we are now children of our heavenly Father (Romans 12:9-13)
  Servants
We no longer seek to be served, but are servants of God who serve others as a way of life (Romans 12:6-8)
  Disciples
We are now continual students of Jesus, loved by the Father and empowered by the Spirit, who creatively seek to live in the good of the gospel (Romans 12:2)
  Witnesses
We are sent by God to proclaim the gospel and restore all things to Himself (Romans 12:14-21)

OUR FUTURE

Evidence of God’s Grace
From street cleanups to housing development, from encountering the sick to medical clinics, from homelessness to job creation, from addictions to freedom, from eviction to security, from drug dealing to family development. And yet, we expect that there is much much more to come.
With great expectation we will attempt new ministries and deepen existing ones:
Community Groups
Redemption Groups
Racial reconciliation
Job Creation and Training
Housing Development
Community Gardening
Medical Clinics
Internship program and Mercy Network
We will carry the gospel even further into the dark, broken, and lost world around us – confronting this world’s addictions, violence, poverty, single family households, and even death – so that we might shine forth Christ’s eternal light of hope.
There is a great door of opportunity that stands before us.  We ask you to join us.  Our attempts require no half-heartedness.  No timidity.  No turning back.  As Paul once said, I am under obligation…

Out of great expectation from God, we will attempt great things for God.

Our Team

We desire to be a team who knows where God wants people to be and then take the initiative to get them there by God’s means in reliance upon his power.   One of the primary functions of our team is to equip and train others to carry out the work of this ministry.
