Welcome to Seed.

Back to School Jam Results

Today I received a thank you letter from the planning committee for the Smoketown/Shelby Park Back to School Jam 2008.  This is really a thank you letter to all the 26 Sojourn volunteers who gave their time and resources to see this ministry a success.  The following letter is addressed to all our volunteers:

Dear Sojourn,

The final tallies are in! On behalf of the Back to School Jam Committee, we want to thank you and Sojourn Community Church for the volunteer support of the eighth annual Smoketown/Shelby Park “Back to School Jam.”  Not only was this an opportunity for neighborhood youth to receive free school supplies and lunch, but also for youth to register with sponsoring organizations and become involved in neighborhood activities.  The 2008 “Jam” was a huge success, with a total of 1,000 back packs given away.

The Saturday, July 26th event provided parents an opportunity to have their children’s immunizations brought up to date.  During this one-day event, the Harambee Nursing Center was able to serve over 52 families with school shysicals and immunizations.  In addition, the Farmer’s Market at Meyzeek Middle School provided the perfect backdrop for the “Jam” with families lingering to purchase fresh produce.  A big thank you also goes out to the over 43 volunteers who packed school supplies on Friday and helped with various tasks on Saturday.

Again, thank you for supporting our efforts to Celebrate Education and Lifelong Learning!  We could not have done it without your contribution.  I look forward to working with you to repeat this success in 2009!

Sincerely,

Lawrence Wilbon
